Tim Wheatley

Alternative Folk/Rock Troubadour Tim Wheatley, will release his forthcoming sophomore album Pillar to Post through Sony Music Entertainment Australia on August 25th. The album features Wheatley’s current single ‘Her Wicked Ways’. The album was crafted of three parts whilst straddling the Pacific and touring his debut album Cast of Yesterday. The seeds were sown in Melbourne with longtime collaborator Michael Badger (Demon Parade, The Sparrows). ‘Snakes Amongst the Cane’, ‘Pillar to Post’ and ‘Naked as the Day’ were recorded at Hot House Audio in St Kilda in Melbourne.

The album came to fruition in Los Angeles with producer Justin Stanley (Noiseworks, Eric Clapton, Beck, Sheryl Crow). It was finished up by Wheatley and his band at Boulevard Studios in Hollywood.

“I met Justin Stanley shortly after I moved to Los Angeles at a coffee shop in Hollywood. Being a fellow Aussie expat we knew a lot of the same folk and realized we had a lot of mutual influences. We co-wrote ‘Her Wicked Ways’ & ‘Better Days’, and recorded two more new songs of mine ‘Midnight Man’ and ‘Old Hollywood’ at his studio Stellasound.

“The first single ‘Her Wicked Ways’ was the first song we did together. He sent me a voice memo with an acoustic guitar and melody, and started work on the lyrics. I actually wrote around three versions of the song, until I settled on lyrics I found in my notebook from a trip to Paris in which I visited a Helmut Newton exhibition.

“It is certainly an album born of harder times than Cast of Yesterday,” explains Tim. “The influence Los Angeles has had on my music came in ways I didn’t expect. Rather than painting a sundrenched California, I found myself reaching for home in Australia.

“I was writing songs about the road when I was at home, and songs about home when I was out on the road. I found myself losing the battle with the tyranny of distance and was having an ongoing arm-wrestle with life’s guilty pleasures. The sheer brutality of the ‘LA hustle’ was very hard to come to grips with – I found the highs were high, and the lows were low, and there was absolutely nothing in between.

Pillar to Post was always going to be the name of the second album. It was the first song written, and even two years later it is still my favourite.”

The album Pillar to Post is set for release through Sony on August 25th.
